Mickey Hart joined the Grateful Dead in 1967 bringing along his fiery creative passion. He continues to immerse himself in creativity both artistic and musical, exploring previously uncharted waters, expanding his artistic boundaries.
As a member of the band, he embraces the spontaneous nature of live performance, using rhythm as a vessel for self-expression and to form a connection with his audience as well as his canvas.
Within his artwork, colors and form reflect the rhythmic energy of the musical experience.
Harts’ commitment to experimentation drives him to blend various influences - from world music, to abstract art, to his time in the Grateful Dead - creating a rich universe of creativity, challenging conventions, exploring both inner and outer space. A psychonaut adrift in time, traversing space, utilizing rhythm and brush as rudder and oar.
Mickey Hart’s career arch has been unlike any other.
From 50 years of performance in the Grateful Dead, notable world music collaborations and movie scores, to art installations and live performances, his creative explorations are forever expanding. Turning a small-scale Golden Gate replica into an original instrument, sonifying NASA celestial bodies and heartbeats from a womb, are part of the overall curvature that is a lifetime of flow.
Throughout his life, he has been actively preserving cultural and natural noises. Most recently his psychedelic art was featured on the Las Vegas Sphere, creating a multidimensional experience, one that embraces both inner and outer space, as a medium for creativity.
There is no limit when creating from the spirited heart,
shall we go… you and I, while we can?
